Strawberry picking & waffles

Hey I got an idea! I could stay with you! We could stay up late, swap manly stories, and in the morning, I'm making waffles! -Donkey

We have strawberries galore here! My mom and Noah went picking over the weekend, and he came home with some serious berry-yumminess.

I think summer has got to be the best time for people, especially diabetics nutrition -wise. Fresh fruits and veggies in season seem to taste better than any other time of the year.

We try to encourage healthy choices often, but breakfast is tough around here. If we let Noah eat waffles, bacon and english muffins every day, he'd be perfectly happy. Getting him to try oatmeal took alot of smart and clever parenting tricks (by that, I mean bribery) and he hated it. So fruit is what we rely on to not feel like terrible parents who feed the kid junk all the time!

Strawberry season is here!! I have that on my list of things to do with the kids.

Yes, strawberries are not only a D-child's best friend, but a great friend to the mom as well. I don't cringe if he eats as he picks and I don't have to calculate and guesstimate and worry about dosing the right amount of insulin.

Noah is a cutie :)

Great picture of Noah. As for strawberries, all I have to say is Mmm, mmm.

I'm hoping to go picking with a friend around 6:30 AM this Friday. Great time to chat and labor. And then make strawberry rhubarb something or other. I can't wait.

Mmmmm, thos look yummy. I bought two big things of strawberries today. I think waffles will be perfect. And hey, if I add some flax seed and use half whole wheat flour, they'll be even better. Maybe then I won't feel so guilty when I slather them in maple syrup. :D
